- 1-2 tsp dried butterfly pea flowers 4-6 whole dried flowers
- 2 cups hot water
- 1-2 tsp honey or sugar optional
- freshly squeezed lemon juice for color changing
Bring the water to a boil in a small pot or kettle.
Add the dried butterfly pea flowers to the hot water and let steep for 3–5 minutes. The water will turn a deep, vibrant blue.
Strain the tea into cups if using loose flowers.
Add honey or sugar if desired and stir until dissolved.
Slowly add fresh lemon juice and watch the color change from deep blue to a rich purple.
Serve warm or let cool and pour over ice for a refreshing iced version.
- The color-changing effect happens because the tea reacts to acidity from the lemon, shifting from blue to purple.
- The more lemon you add, the more vibrant and lighter the purple becomes.
- This tea is naturally caffeine-free.
- For a dramatic effect, add the lemon juice right before serving.
